Mural “Megalithic Culture in la Raya”
Artist: Jonatan Carranza “Sojo”
With its title referring to the area (la Raya) which straddles the border, this mural represents the importance of the Tagus International Biosphere Reserve as one of the most significant megalithic culture archaeological sites in Europe. The idol plaquefrom the Maimón dolmen in Alcántara and the Mellizo dolmen in Valencia de Alcántara are depicted.
🎵 Audio guide
The two localities with the most catalogued dolmens are Valencia de Alcántara and Santiago de Alcántara. They both have interpretive centres dedicated to megalithic culture and walking trails which visit some of the remains. The background of the mural is a starry sky, referencing the clean, unpolluted skies of the reserve, especially in Salorino.
