Mural “Man and the Dehesa, Interactions”

This is a representation of two activities which are vital to the maintenance of the dehesa (an ecosystem of wooded pasture) – hunting and cork harvesting. On the right there is a person carrying tools for stripping the cork, an axe for cutting the sheets of cork and a wooden lever to detach them from the tree. There are piles of cork in the background.

On the left, there is a stag bellowing in the rutting season, in August and September. Hunting is an important economic activity in and around the reserve between October and March, generating both direct and indirect income.
